Passive Income – Freedom or Finance?

Passive Income DreamsI’m in curious mode today, and was wondering what it is that motivates you, my esteemed reader,  in setting up a passive income on-line?

If you are like me and are currently trying to develop your own passive income portfolio, then you will know just how much hard work is involved and how long it takes to see signs of success. In one of my previous posts – Why do You Want to be an Affiliate Marketer? – I said that unless you had real motivation that you will probably have little success on-line. There are obviously many valid reasons for wanting to earn your living on-line, and almost as many ways of achieving this, but in aiming to earn money using more passive methods (ie that continue earning with little maintenance once set up) you are aiming for a rather special goal. You are also writing off many other ways of earning on-line. So why would you do this?

I want to explore three of the possible reasons below, and then ask for your own specific motivations.

How Niche is Your Niche?

Perfect NicheDefining the perfect niche for your website or blog is a skill that all affiliate marketers need to work on and develop, particularly if you want to carve out your success using SERPs traffic. Many types of business only need to identify a single niche that they want to attack, but as an affiliate marketer in the online world, it is a trick you will probably have to successfully repeat many times over. But look on the bright side, practice makes perfect!

In this post, I will go through the current thought process I use whilst selecting a niche, and how I might apply this to different types of project. For me this is most definitely still a work in progress, and I learn new things with every site and blog I set up. (more…)

Are Blog Comments Important?

happy blog commenterI’ve read several different discussions recently on whether or not attracting blog comments is important and how important or not your regular commenters are to your blog. One discussion on DennisEdell.com attracted a good range of views. Some thought that most commenters were really only there for a backlink and since they were unlikely to be the visitors that actually buy anything via affiliate links, they were therefore of limited importance. Others (myself included) felt that commenters are very important as they add to the sense of community and life of a blog.

But what if there were other benefits from your commenters, what if they could actually gain you traffic! (more…)

Affiliate Marketing Trends 2010

You can be sure that any good affiliate marketer who uses active methods such as PPC will have a keen eye on the affiliate marketing trends for 2010 and will be promoting what he or she thinks is going to be hot this year. But what about those of us who are concentrating on passive income streams? Do we pay enough attention to market trends when selecting our affiliate offers? (more…)

Successful Squidoo Marketing #2

Late last year I started a mini project on Successful Squidoo Marketing in order to investigate what was required to improve the performance of my Squidoo lenses. To this end I set up a lens in a popular mainstream category – Food and Cooking – the lens is called Easy Bean Stew Recipe – and below is my first report on its progress so far and what I hope to find out from this mini study.
