Affiliate Progress Report – A Look Back at Quarter Two 2010

30 Jun

Affiliate Progress Report

I’m actually quite pleased with my affiliate marketing progress this last quarter. I am learning steadily, and forming a more closely focused strategy. Actual income is still very low, but that is also as expected because of the number of projects I’m restricting myself to and the need to develop those projects further.

Only one major fly in the ointment, which is Google’s refusal to expose one of my lovely new sites to the gaze of the general public. With so few projects for me to experiment with, this is getting a little annoying after four and a half months, but there is not too much to be done about it I guess.

One discussion on DennisEdell.com attracted a good range of views. Some thought that most commenters were really only there for a backlink and since they were unlikely to be the visitors that actually buy anything via affiliate links, they were therefore of limited importance. Others (myself included) felt that commenters are very important as they add to the sense of community and life of a blog.

But what if there were other benefits from your commenters, what if they could actually gain you traffic! (more…)

What is Your Blog Comment Policy?

16 Mar

Question MarkDo you operate a comment policy on your blog? I think spam is a curse at the best of times, but sometimes it is borderline, and how do we decide where that line is to be drawn. I certainly don’t want to hack off any genuine visitors, but neither do I want be used as a traffic generating tool by spammers.

Right from the start I’ve had a rather loosely defined policy which I’ll describe below, but now that the number and type of comments I’m getting are steadily on the increase, do I need a re-think? Should I tighten things up a little? (more…)
